VANPEX 2012 announces dual themes:

The centenary of the sinking of R.M.S. Titanic

&

the Jubilee Anniversary of QE II

VANPEX 2012, the annual, regional stamp exhibition and bourse sponsored by the BC Philatelic Society, will be held Friday and Saturday, Sept. 28/29, at West Burnaby United Church, 6050 Sussex Avenue, Burnaby, BC.

VANPEX will highlight two notable events, the 1912 sinking of R.M.S. Titanic as its main theme, and the Jubilee Anniversary of HM Queen Elizabeth II as a sub-theme. Exhibitors are invited to submit exhibits based however loosely on these events. However, Exhibits Chair Martine Mercier notes that VANPEX is an inclusive exhibition which accepts exhibits on any topic.

Download and print your VANPEX Exhibit Application and your VANPEX Prospectus. The deadline for submissions is August 31, 2012.

Stamp and ephemera dealers are invited to contact Bourse Chair Derren Carman, who will supply bourse application forms.

VANPEX 2012 opens at 10 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 28 and closes at 5 p.m. Hours on Saturday are from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. There is free parking in the church parking lot and on nearby streets.

GOOD STUFF!

Our current Newsletter as well as past issues, club news, and useful and interesting articles, including "What to do when you inherit stamps," by Past President Bob Ingraham.

Why do we collect stamps? Why should you collect stamps? Novelist Ayn Rand (The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged) was a stamp collector who wrote what is perhaps the best-ever explication of what it is that draws us to what most people consider a curious hobby for children. Read "Why I like stamp collecting".

A notable addition: A downloadable copy of Canadian Philately — An Outline: A Summary of Collecting Areas and Interests of British North America Collectors, a useful publication of BNAPS (British North America Philatelic Society). You'll find the links to the booklet on our GOOD STUFF! web page.
